N-5 What You'll Learn

The JLPT N5 (Japanese Language Proficiency Test, Level 5) is the introductory level of the JLPT. You will gain proficiency in reading and writing hiragana, katakana, and approximately 100 kanji characters. Additionally, you will need to know around 800 basic vocabulary words. This course introduces fundamental sentence structures and essential vocabulary for everyday situations. By the end of the course, you will have developed a solid foundation for conversation, reading, and listening to simple texts, dialogues, and stories focused on common scenarios.

Japanese fundamentals of grammar and vocabulary

Basic Grammars:

Introduction to Particles, Verb Conjugations, Adjectives, Interrogatives, Conjunctions and Basic General Grammar Points.

Vocabulary:

About 800 basic words used in daily conversations.

Beginner Japanese conversation (speaking and listening).

Listening:

Ability to listen and comprehend conversations about topics that are regularly encountered in daily life and classroom situations and picking up necessary information from short conversations spoken slowly.

Speaking:

Handling basic situations like meeting new people, shopping, or talking about your day that develop foundational functional level of conversations.

Japanese reading and writing skills (hiragana, katakana, basic kanji).

Hiragana and Katakana:

Basic Characters, Stroke order and writing, pronunciations, and usage. Practice exercises for reading and writing simple sentences.

Kanji:

Focus learning on Basic Kanji Characters (Around 100 kanji), Kanji readings, Stroke order and writing, Meanings and Kanji compounds.
